Craftsmanship has even helped put Maastricht on the map in a variety of areas, such as its internationally renowned tableware and sanitary ware that were once made in the Sphinx factory. As a city, we are tremendously proud of our local talent that helps make the city even more beautiful with each passing day. Thanks to its creative industry, Maastricht continues to be a rich city of culture. Maastricht, a city bursting with talent!

There is plenty of creative activity going on in the areas of architecture and history, as well as in drama, dance, and theatre. It’s no coincidence that the Maastricht Academy of Performing Arts (Toneelacademie) is so well known. This is where established actors such as Pierre Bokma and Monique van de Ven, as well as new talents such as Achmed Akkabi and Reinout Scholten van Aschat, started their glittering careers. The Maastricht Theatre Group (Toneelgroep Maastricht) also puts on the most extraordinary performances. The Dutch Dance Festival in Maastricht is always an impressive event when dance livens up the entire city. Maastricht is also booming in the area of fashion. Just think of the annual Fashionclash.

Maastricht is the breeding ground for many big-name creators. Thanks to their passion and expertise, our city is buzzing with artistic hotspots that showcase creativity and craftsmanship. Artists and creative minds from various movements are finding their feet. Each and every one of them has a unique story to tell. One, in the form of jewellery, the other in the form of theatre. These creators form a bottomless source of inspiration for up and coming talent.

Whether you’re looking for a nice souvenir of your visit or you want to show how proud you are of the city as a resident, you’ll find plenty to choose from in our webshop or in the Maastricht Visitor Center shop in the Dinghuis. Here, alongside our own assortment, such as the popular tableware featuring our local dialect, you’ll also find items from the Makers of Maastricht.
