Egyptian documentary maker Ibrahim Nash’at travelled to Afghanistan in 2021, shortly after the US military withdrawal. He follows a Taliban commander who has taken over Hollywoodgate, an abandoned CIA base. The film captures trivial moments that undermine the Taliban narrative, such as an inspection of abandoned gym equipment and the sounds of gunfire in the distance. A complex tightrope walk performed with verve.
The film will be introduced by an expert.
